Granny’s Sweet Milk Boiled Corn on the Cob

An old-school southern trick for cooking the sweetest, juiciest corn on the cob using water, milk, sugar, salt, and a full stick of butter.

Ingredients

  • 4-6 ears fresh sweet corn shucked
  • Water to cover corn in pot
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 stick butter
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1-2 tsp salt

Equipment

  • Large pot or stockpot
  • Tongs
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. Combine: Place the shucked corn in a large pot and cover with water. Add the milk, butter, sugar, and salt.
  2. Boil: Bring the pot to a rolling boil over high heat.
  3. Cook: Boil for 10 minutes until the corn kernels are tender and plump.
  4. Serve: Remove with tongs and serve hot.

Notes

Salt: Adjust the salt quantity between 1 and 2 teaspoons depending on your personal preference for sweet-versus-savory balance.
