Giant Cast Iron Oreo and Chocolate Chip Cookie

A massive chocolate chip skillet cookie loaded with fine Oreo crumbs and chunky cookie pieces, baked to golden perfection in a cast iron pan.

Ingredients

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter room temperature
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • ½ cup white granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 1 egg yolk room temperature
  • 1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 11 Oreos total ½ cup fine crumbs + ¾ cup pieces + extra for topping
  • Bacon grease or Baker's Joy for the pan

Equipment

  • Cast-iron skillet
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk and spatula

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease your cast iron skillet with bacon grease or Baker's Joy.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream the butter and both sugars for 1-2 minutes. Add vanilla, egg, and egg yolk, mixing well.
  4. Stir the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until a dough forms. Fold in chocolate chips and Oreo bits.
  5. Smooth the dough into the cast iron skillet. Top with extra Oreo pieces and crumbs.
  6. Bake for 40-45 minutes. Cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

Pan Greasing: Leftover bacon grease adds a subtle, savory depth to the crust, but Baker's Joy works wonderfully too.
